This is as hard to write as it is for you to read. Sadly, the is the end for Compuproscrapbooking.com.

We are sure that this is a shock to you, and we are sorry for the sudden change in plans. While it was in everyone’s heart that this site could continue “as is” – many different obstacles showed themselves and the decision has been made to close the site down.

Thank you to everyone who sent in the donations to help with the site. Amy will be contacting you individually to arrange to get your money back (and thanks Amy for taking on the collection role in the first place).

On behalf of the DT members past and present, we want to thank you, the members and core of this site, for all that you have done. The community that was created in the short life of this site is truly amazing. Coming together, supporting one another, the creative talent…..all amazing. Thank you Nicole for starting this venture for us, we are all better scrappers and better women from it.

So – what next?

We are not sure of an exact date to when the site will close. The blog will remain active at least till the end of January so that we can communicate to you. There are lots of other places to play on the world wide web, and we encourage you to share the sites that you visit so that we can all gather together somewhere else.

Feel free to continue with the challenges and chatter till the site reads no longer active (although LO tag has been cancelled). Share emails with one another and whatever information will be relevant to keep in touch.

Again, thank you all. It’s been an amazing journey, and while we are all sad to see this site close, it’s a new year and a new beginning.

A Little Technique To Tide Us Over

Love those Cuttlebug embossing folders but don't have a Cuttlebug? You can still use them!!

This is all you need: the folder of your choice, your cardstock of your choice, a water misting bottle and a rolling pin.

Mist your cardstock well with water (not sopping, but damp). Place it in the embossing folder.

Roll your rolling pin back and forth in all directions - the more you roll, the better it will emboss.

Finished product is on the left, actual Cuttlebugged item on the right. Not bad, eh?

Christmas for me is all about FAMILY. It's so important for me to have everyone near. So I was thinking about that for a bit and realized that most of my layouts are about Mia these days, or maybe about DH, or the roast I made last week...but I don't often do a layout where the whole purpose is to chronicle a family member, or to honor my family. Whether it be immediate or extended...1 or 100 people. Do a layout where you dedicate the whole page to 'family'... That doesn't have to be the title, but make sure you do 'explain' your layout through your title and/or journaling.

The "suspense" of transition

Ahhh - the familiar joys of "transition"! If you're reading this blog, it probably means that you've checked the forum and discovered that the "Account has been suspended"...well...that would be the result of that "transition" thing we were talking about earlier.

As we speak, a gaggle of "compupro" people are scurrying around like elves in Santa's workshop, trying to get it all sorted out. Please be patient with us and we'll have everything back up and running in no time :)

In the mean time, I'm going to see if I can shake the DT Tree and see what we can post here for some fun challenges (and maybe even a prize or two) to keep us all on our scrappy toes?? Whadya think??

Marbalized Cards

Rolling Marble Background Card

My directions call for specific colours. Obviously that was for ease of instruction. You can use any colour combination you like. Try experimenting with different types of stamps, re-inkers and CS.

Supplies:

8-1/2 x 11" Black Cardstock

8-1/2 x 11" White CS

4" Red CS

4 Marbles

Plastic box

Red Re-inker (I used SU Classic Real Red)

Black Ink Pad (I used Stazon)

5" length ribbon(I used red grosgrain)

Round image stamps (I used SU In The Spotlight)

Circle punch, cutter (CM, Nestabilities, etc..)

Corner punchadhesive

Directions:

From the White Cardstock

Cut a 4-1/2 x 5-1/2" piece of white CS. From the remaining white CS, cut a 3" circle using whatever tool you have - circle punches, CM cutting system, Nestabilities, etc ...

From the Black Cardstock

Cut black CS in half so you have two 8-1/2 x 5-1/2" pieces. Fold one piece in half to form a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2" card. Round all four corners with a corner rounder punch. From the remaining piece of black CS, cut 1", 2-1/2" and 3-1/3" circles using whatever tool you have - circle punches, CM cutting system, Nestabilities, etc ...

From the Red Cardstock

Stamp the 2" round image on red CS using black ink. Centering this image, cut circle out to measure 2-1/4". At this point, you can add a brad at the center of the image if you want.

Adhere to the black 2-1/2" circle, then to the white 3" circle, then finally to the black 3-1/4" circle. Set aside. Stamp the round "thank you" sentiment on red CS with black ink.

Cut circle out to measure 3/4". Mount this circle on the 1" black circle.

Set aside.

Rolling Marble Background

Add several drops of re-inker to a plastic box. Add several marbles to the plastic box and close the lid. Shake the box to ink marbles. Place 4-1/2 x 5-1/2" white CS in plastic box and close lid. Roll marbles over CS to create a pattern. Continue until you like the look of the BG. Trim Marble BG to 3-3/4 x 5". Round all four corners with a punch.

Final Assembly

Adhere the grosgrain ribbon to the Marbled BG 1" from the bottom. Attach the BG to the black card front. Attach the stamped images to the Marbled BG, centering the "thank you" circle on the ribbon.

Voila! You're done!

Faux Metal - Heat Embossing

We not only want to teach you NEW Techniques. We ask you send a Card to a Troop Member. All directions on how are listed below.

Okay, w/o further ado - here are the directions :)

I must admit I’m not a savvy card maker and really struggle with manly cards! I have used this technique on a couple manly cards and scrapbook pages and always liked the look.

I used a green and brown color combo, which I excitedly noticed once completed had a Army feel to it!

Now unto the card shall we?

Items Needed:

Heat Gun

Versa Pad

Embossing Powder

Peice of cardstock larger then stamp imageStamp (Cannot be foam stamps)

On this card you are going to learn how to heat emboss a faux metal image!

This will allow you to use your stamps in a whole new way!!

Embossing Cardstock

First step is to goo up your paper with your Versa Mark.

Proceed, to sprinkle your embossing powder on the piece of paper and heat emboss.

I'm showing you a picture of what my cardstock looked like after I embossed it.

You are to proceed to layer your embossing 5 times!! Let it cool, recover with versa pad stickiness, pour your powder over, heat & Repeat 5 times.

Included is a image of what the same peice of cardstock looked like after 5 layers of embossing powder.

Ready for the magic part?!?

When you are done your 5th layer and your embossing powder is totally melted, quickly grab your stamp and stamp into the hot embossing powder.

Don’t worry this won’t hurt your stamps!!

You know what else is really cool….if you make a mistake you can reheat your embossed cardstock and restamp! Don’t worry about the edges. I trimmed mine down a bit but like the tarnished finished look of the metal.

On the finished card I used my Cuttlebug and chalk inked the CB peice.

Shake things up and use bronze or cooper embossing powders!

In case you are wondering the tinfoil was my embossing tray mine was at the store when I put this together I hope you have fun with this new technique and make sure to share you masterpeices with us!

World Card Making Day

WORLD CARD MAKING DAY is this Saturday!!!!!!!! And guess what??? We have something fun planned for you!!

Here at CompuPro Scrapbooking, on October 4th, 2008 you are invited to come together to celebrate this holiday with us for a 9 cards in 9 hours “Write to the Troops” crop!! Starting at 9am (Atlantic Standard Time) and continuing each hour there after until 5pm, our talented design team together with a few guests will be posting a unique card and the step by step instructions to go along with it so you can create the card yourself. A challenge or two may be thrown in there every now and then too!!

We chose a “Write to the Troops” theme for our World Card Making Day crop because there are many soldiers overseas serving our country at this very moment. Regardless of what we think about the conflicts going on around the world, we agree that our soldiers are brave, honorable, and deserve our support!!

So we would like you to share the joy of a creating some handmade cards with us on October 4th and pay it forward afterwards by writing a little message inside and sending them on to a soldier (or two or 3.) Just one or two cards is all it would take to make one day out of their deployment a little bit brighter and more meaningful. Please let them know you are thinking about them, supporting their strength and admiring their courage. If you have happen to complete ALL 9 cards and maybe even more, it would be a nice sentiment to send them along too. The soldiers can definitely use them to keep in touch with family and friends back home.

What a weekend! We had a FAB crop on Saturday. What a great bunch of ladies that were there. I dont get to scrap at these events but have fun none the less. It was just like old times, it seemed so long since a gang of scrappers were together.

Then yesterday, I awaited patiently for Tori to call me and give me trip updates from her drive home from Montreal. The bus had them home by 10:30PM last night yipppeee! How great to have her home safe and sound :)

Every Monday there is a new Technique of the Week posted on the foum posted by your Design Team Members - I'm going to share one this Morning that Kim Flogeras posted awhile back.

Flowers with Hearts...This is super easy...and check out the beautiful flower you will get...You need CS or PP, a heart punch (or you can make your own with the above directions) - You'll need about 5 hearts. Once you have the 5 hearts, fold each heart in half lengthwise. Using your fingers, round the top "bubbles" of the heart, so that it bubbles out from the fold (see picture)... Ink if you wish and TADA a flower. I used a prima and some glitter glue for the center of my flower...

October is What? October, is only a week away - What is up with that? Seems like Summer just passed me by with a quick howdy doodie wave and left!

Ah well, not to despair to much as I can't say that I don't like Fall. It really is my fave time of year. I love watching our leaves turn colour, going and picking out those perfect pumpkins, Thanksgiving Dinner the list goes on and on.

Our very first Online Crop is July 1st - July 20th! I would love to have you all there scrapping with us online. At the same time I know you are wondering what in the world Nick is a ONLINE CROP? Let me first tell you it is free.......all you need to do is scrap. If you want to get together w/ some friends and scrap hey that is awesome too! Here is some more info. So ... what is an Online Crop?

1.) What is an online crop?
An online crop is an huge event hosted by our Design Team members and myself incorporating scrapbooking, games, challenges, PRIZES, chatting with other members and all around FUN! The point of an online crop is to get active and we encourage you to participate in the many games and challenges.
2) Online Crop Activities
The main attraction to the online crop are the challenges. You'll find layout challenges featuring many different themes and techniques, and Fast Scraps which are mini challenges intended to keep you thinking and scrapping on the ball! Most every challenge can be completed using basic supplies any scrapper should have in their supply. In the case that a particular product is required, an announcement will be made ahead of time in the Online Crop Forum, allowing plenty of time to gather necessary supplies beforehand. In the near future our online crops may feature scrapbooking classes. Make sure you check the class supply list in the Cyber Crop Forum or Crop informational page. Games are another big feature during the online crop. You can join in the fun playing bingo, guessing games, scavenger hunts and MORE! Remember... the more games and challenges you participate in the better your chances are of walking away with prizes and/or gift certificates!

4) How to get ready for the Online Crop This is simple!
Check out the Cyber Crop Forum (or the crop info page in the Events & News section) and jot down the schedule, sign up for classes and check for any other announcements regarding challenges or games. Also, don't forget to sign up for Bingo and send in your bingo cards early! We've got a number of different bingo games scheduled to keep the fun rocking all weekend long! Then gather all your favorite supplies and clear a scrapping space... preferably near your pc to optimize your crop enjoyment! Lastly, make sure you plan ahead and clear your busy schedule so you can spend as much time participating in the crop as you possibly can! You won't want to miss a bit of the action!

5) What to expect once the Online Crop begins?
Hold onto your hats for Fun! Fun! Fun! You'll suddenly begin to notice new threads popping up for games, challenges and friendly chit-chat in the Cyber Crop forum. Keep an eye on the Cyber Crop Forum, refreshing often to be sure you don't miss a new challenge or game. The rules for each challenge and game are posted clearly in each new thread. As always, if you have a question please feel welcome to shout it out. Our Design Team hostesses and myself are there to ensure you have fun and many members of our online community are seasoned veterans of online cropping!

6) How to find new challenges as they become available
The best way to stay in the know is to keep refreshing the Cyber Crop Forum! You'll see new threads with the challenge title and # and in case you get lost in a sea of new threads... there is always a master Crop thread highlighted and stuck to the top of the Crop Forum with an up to date listing of current and past challenges.

7) How are winners chosen
Our Design Team hostesses try their hardest to make sure everyone has the most fun they can have during an online crop. The only way to get awards is to participate, participate, participate! Most challenge and game winners are chosen by random drawing. Some games will state in the rules as they are posted, that the "first person with the correct answer" is called winner. It's important to read the rules in every new challenge or game. You also never know when you'll be randomly selected just for hanging around on the Message Board with us!

I have so much going on right now, ladies!

First off let me tell you a little something. I miss you. If you are reading this I M-I-S-S YOU!
I miss you and the way things used to be that I gave my 2weeks notice at the hospital. I need to step back and re-evaluate The Big Picture (A little Grey's Anantomy line there for ya!) I will be back at the store full time shortly!

Also, our forum and gallery is growing like a weed with lots of water and sun. We have had over 150 people sign up on the forum in 1 week.

There is so much scrapbook chatter going on that I'm in a constant state of scrapbook mojo. There is a card swap being hosted. There are challenges from the awesome design team happenning. We are getting ready to host our 1st annual Yellow Bikini Crop online. And that is just the beginning of what we are going to be offerring. IF you signed up but haven't stopped back on please do it is like being at a huge crop and never having to leave your house! If you haven't signed up my invitation to you is always there! Where do you scrapbook?? I was just checking out the 2peas galleries...it left me a little bummed over my space :( Holy crap there's some serious denero being dumped on scrapbook rooms in this world!!! lol My space certainly doesn't look like anything out of a magazine, but it's mine gosh darnit and I love it...ok - I'm learning to accept it...but still - it's mine!! lol

Are you a dining table kinda gal?? Do you have your own room or closet or corner?? Where do you keep all your "stuff"?? I think most of us are collecters to a certain level - he he - I'm pretty sure that if Nic ever runs out of anything I could top her up ;)

I figured that this weekend, since I'm sure everyone will be Waaaaaay too busy enjoying the sun for a challenge, I'd keep it simply...where do you scrap?? PLEEEZE...show me whatcha got!! I'd abso-smurfly LOVE it if everyone could post a pic on the FB gallery of where you scrap :) I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;)

I’m going to stand on my soap box here for a moment.

The comments that were put forth on the Blog totally hurt me and hurt me hard.

Have you ever poured your life and soul into something? Have you ever put blood, sweat and tears into something? Then have somebody come along and smack talk that something?

I now feel like I need to be heard from all of you. Not just Rob, My Mom and My Friends. But all you customers out there.

I want you to logically think to yourself….if CompuPro Scrapbooking was a thriving business would Nicole really step away and go get another job? Would she? Let me answer that for you…..NO she would not. Pretty Black and White Right?

If CompuPro Scrapbooking, was selling lots of inventory would you feel like there wasn’t anything NEW coming in? Let me answer that too for you…..NO you would not. The Black and White in that is that in order to Order in New Product the Inventory on hand must sell first. We take what sells and we order stuff in. Scrapbook hobbiest are not buying like they once did. We have to be very selective on what we do order in making sure that it is a seller.

In saying ALL THE ABOVE we are NOT going anywheres. We are just going with the changes of this hobby. People are cross border shopping more, dollar stores are dabbing in the hobby, online stores are taking their bite and then the ever impending giant Michaels.(That doesn’t even touch the fact that some you have enough stock at home to open your own store LOL) You look at a pie chart with all those taken into the grand scheme and your Local Scrapbook Store has a smaller piece of the pie in which to operate and bring you in those hot items. Which at one time we knew would sell and now take a gamble only hoping it will.

I have lots of ideas still for the store. Hollee, and I have a very busy Summer ahead of us to put those ideas into motion. Will they be for the better? I sure hope so!!!!

Ok...by now, everyone should be ready to pull it alllll together :) The passed few days have been a crazy town with fender benders, sick kiddos and hubbies...and now, thanks to technical difficulties (ie - hubby reformated my computer and didn't install any of my software) I was not able to scan my layouts :( Sorry for that...In the mean time...I'll post the layouts that inspired our "quick and easy scrappin session" :)

Sooo - Here we go!!

Page "A"...

In your album, you should have:

A piece of black cardstock

A recipe card, complete with journaling

A piece of patterned paper with a little black on it, cut as directed.

A title

A piece of chipboard

A button.

A 5 x 7 Black & white picture

All pretty simple...Now - get read...get set....SCRAP!!! Your finished layout should look something like this :)

Page "B"...

For this page, you should have:

A piece of Tan cardstock

4 squares of patterned paper

A title

A recipe card with journaling

A 4 x 6 color picture

Now...Get ready...................get set.....................................SCRAP!!! Your finished layout should look like THIS!!

Page "C"...

In this one, you should have the following:

1 sheet of dark brown cardstock

1 recipe card, complete with journaling

1 title

5 strips of patterned paper

2 white cardstock rectangles (for mats)

1 button

2 black and white 4 x 6 pictures

Ok...are you ready??? get set..........................................SCRAP!! This is what your final layout should look like :)

So - there we have it...3 quick and easy layouts completed in 5-ish minute increments with great results:) Please post your creations in the Facebook gallery so we can all admire our handy work :) As soon as I overcome MY technical challenges, I'll post mine too:)

tonight...we'll work on journaling.

Page "A":
Take out your recipe card and think of single words to explain the picture, the thought, the memory etc. Journaling for this one can be point form. If - for example - you were using a picture about fishing...your journaling could look like this...

- tangled lines - salamander eggs - too windy - long drive - no worms - new rods - lost bobber - still fun :)

Don't sweat a long explination - point form it...short and sweet :) Then - toss it in the sleeve with the rest of the supplies for page "A".

Page "B":
Again, take out your recipe card and pretend you're showing someone the picture. what would you tell them? Write THAT on your card :) Toss it in your sleve :)

Page "C":
Anything goes :) Journal however you'd like. Remember though, all 3 of these are supposed to be short and sweet :) Keep it simple :) The - toss it in your sleeve :)

The last part for tonight is to figure out how you're going to put your title on. Do you have a cricut? Will you use stickers? What about Foam Stamps?? However you decide, pull that stuff out tonight (if you have enough time) and get ready for tomorrow night when we put everything together :)

LET'S SCRAPBOOK III (3rd post - Be sure to read below!)

Ok, I'm assuming that everyone has their supplies together by now...you've picked out your pictures, you've got your bacground cardstock set aside with your pics matched up. Just to make sure we're all on the same page, here's a quick recap. You should have 3 empty pages in your Album.

In 1 page "A" you should have:
1 sheet of black cardstock
1 recipe card
1 5x7 black & White picture

In page "B" you should have:
1 sheet of tan cardstock
1 recipe card
1 4x6 color picture

In page "C" you should have:
1 sheet of dark brown cardstock
2 black & white 4x6 pictures
1 recipe card

Ok - now that we've got all that straight, Here's your next step...

Title...Dont' overthink this...what's the first thing that comes to mind the minute youlook at that picture? Even if it's the weirdest thing imaginable - use it!! LOL THAT's your title :) Do it for each picture, so that you have a brief title for each page.

Paper...Ok...Let the cutting begin!!!

Page "C"
Close your eyes, reach into your scrap pile and pull out 5 different sheets of paterned paper...Yes - I said 5!! LOL They shouldn't match - they should be all totally different!!! (TRUST ME!!!) Now...out of each of these 5...you need to cut a strip that is 2"x6". That's it!! You should have 5 stripes of patterned paper that each measure 2"x6". Slide them into page "C";)

Next...cut 2 white rectangles theat measure 4.25"x 6.25"...they go in Page "C" too :)

Embellies:
Last...find a button. 1 button. pick a color out of one of the 5 patterned papers that you just cut and match a single button to that paper...again...Page "C".

Page "A":
Next...Pick a piece of patterned paper that has some black in it. Not too much...just a little black. Cut a piece that measures 8"x11"...slide it into page "A".

Embellies:
Find a chipboard shape...nothing too huge...something that fits inside a 2"x2" square. Maybe a star, or a flower or a swirl...just a small-ish chipboard shape. Paint or color it black. Stick it in page "A"

Last...another button. brown, grey, copper, silver...something metallic-ish...just a neutral color that won't leap out at you. Into page "A" it goes :)

Page "B":
Look at your picture...What color do you want to jump out at you? Once you know what color that is...reach into your scrap pile and pull out 4 scraps of paper that have that color in it. Don't worry if the papers don't "Match"...if they each have that 1 single color in it...it's allll good ;) Now - cut each of those 4 scraps into a 3"x2"rectangle. Slide them into page "C".

Ok...Sooooo...by now (believe it or not) we have almost finished all the prep for 3 full layouts!!! AND - you shouldn't have spent more than 40 minutes on the entire process :) I assume you'll all wanna keep going by now...so that's the perfect time to STOP!!! LOL Remember...anymore than 20 minutes is against the rules :) This is a quick and easy challenge...NO THINKING ALLOWED!!! LOL

Now - enough creativity for 1 night - go use up 20 minutes and THAT'S IT!!! Be sure to check back again, cuz tomorrow night is when it allll comes together ;)

Ok…Who says you don't have anough time to make a great layout?? Well…I'm usually the one saying that, but NOT this time!! LOL I decided that with all the nice weather lately, it's more likely that we'll be spending ouR time outdoors making the mEmories that we'll wanna scrap, rather than scrapping inside with the sun shining bright!! Sooooo - Here's something that I want everyone to do along with me :) k?

This challenge is for all those "fallen behind" scrappers…you know who you are :) the ones who answer the "scrap much lately" question with a long pause and a sigh…Yup - you're the ones I'm referring to :) Well…my little un-scrappers - pay very close attention, cuz we're gonna get 3…yup - countem THREE layouts scrapped this week…and we'll do it in about 5 minute increments :) So - by the end of the week, some of you will have scrapped more in 1 week than you have in the passed month!! (or at least I hope you will anyway ;) If at any point you spend more than 20 minutes on whatever you're doing...STOP!! The key to this challenge is to do little bits at a time...baby steps with big pay off in the end so don't over do it and burn out on me...k??

Redy...set...here we go!!

Step 1: Take 5 minutes and Getcher stuff ready :)
Even if your room is a total write off, you should (at the very least) be able to collect together your "basics"…that is - adhesive, trimmer, scisors etc….This should only take a few minutes, then you're done for tonight :) That's it :) When we start collecting cardstock etc. We'll slide that stuff into the empty pages of your album.

Ok - now…No more for tonight!!! We don't want to over-do it and if you're anything like me, you've got waaaay too much to do to have time to do more anyhow ;)

Ok - ok...fine then maybe that was a little too little...

If you're feeling SUPER keen, you can also pull together the following;
3 pieces of cardstock for backgrounds (1 black, 1 dark brown and 1 tan)

AND….If you're feelin Super FREEKY KEEN, you can also grab 3 recipe cards.

Ok - I mean it this time...for real!! That's it!!!!!

Tomorrow night, I'll post the next step. Between now and then, though, think about the pictures you'll use. Remember, these are Quick and Easy pages…don't grab your sentimental pictures for a deep, intense, thought provoking layout…that's not what these pages are for…these layouts are for…"you ate a bug" pictures…orrrr…"Your first rug burn"….orrrr - anything light hearted that you want to scrap but haven't really made the time for….Think about the title for your layouts as well...

Ok - ok…I know myself well enough to know that there's no way on earth I'd be able to stop yet, soooo - for all you EXTRA SUPER FREEKY KEEN Un-scrappers, here's the LAST step that I'm going to give you tonight…

Pictures - you'll need:

1 black and white 5x7 Portrait format pic (meaning up and down, not an actual portrait) to go with the black cardstock

2 black and white 4x6 landscape format pics to go with the dark brown cardstock

1 color 4x6 landscape format pic....goes with the Tan cardstock.

Ok - now THAT'S IT!! NO MORE!! That's enough creative "stuff" for 1 night, now stuff cardstock, pictures and recipe cards into empty pages of your album and go do something else :)

CHALLENGE!!!!!

Is it just me, or do these sunny weeks seem to be FLYING by??!! It's too bad it's been so windy, cuz I'd totally be scrapping outside!! lol Have you noticed the SUN??!! I Love the Sun :) There are sooo many nice things that happen because of sun :) Bikes come out, flowers grow, kids play int he yard...and when they go to bed it's still light out!! lol

One other thing I noticed, that seems to go hand in hand with Sunnier days is Weddings!! I've overheard about a half a dozen bride-2B's lately, glowing and chatting about their upcoming big days :) That got me to thinking. 1st - boy am I ever glad I don’t have to do THAT again (tee-hee) …and 2…What a GREAT challenge!!!!

Are ya ready for it?? Here it is!!!

This weekend, create a layout and use the following:

1. Something old
2. Something New
3. Something Barrowed
4. Something Blue

That's it!! Get creative and let your imagination run WILD!!!

Pfeuf!! There's a whole lotta scrappin going on these days!! Have you checked out the Facebook gallery lately?? If you haven't, you totally need to cuz we've had like a zillion layouts posted over National Scrapbook Day weekend!!! With the challenges being closed as of midnight, I figure there's no time like the present to offer our May challenge.

This month, though, we're going to try something a little different…Our May challenge has 2 parts.

Part 1: Praise! Praise! Praise! We all know how great it feels when fellow scrappers leave comments on our work. It's the highest form of flattery and tends to keep creativity flowing, soooo...If you see something you like - say so! It only takes a second and is sure to brighten someones day :)

Part 2: use the following add as inspiration to complete a layout :) I just loved this add…there was just something about it that was so inspiring! It's calm and clean but totally scrapable!

This month, whichever layout receives the most feedback will be our winner! This is not exclusive to the challenge layouts either...all feedback for all layouts applies!! Remember though, this isn't about the "best" layout. I don't want anyone thinking "my stuff isn't as good enough" etc. cuz that's not the goal here...What I mean is...I've seen layouts that got loads of feedback because of the super great - funny or weird pic, a fun embelly or because soemone decided to use tin foil...anything goes - it's scrapping remember!! I'm just really hoping that we can all get in the habit of speaking up when we see something we like...after all, what better motivation then hearing from our fellow scrappers!!

Super quick How-to!

I can't tell you how many times I've heard scrappers say "but you're so good at matching papers and colors!! I just suck at it!!" Ok - here's the simple truth…NOBODY SUCKS AT IT!! Lol They just don't know the 1 simple "trick" to making paper work for you ;) It's sooooooooo simple, and once I point it out, you'll probably fall over…and then, once you pick yourselves up off of the floor, you'll move forward and blossom into awe-inspiring paper matching diva's!!

For the purpose of this lesson, I'll use your typical Santa pic :) Everyone hassem…but what paper do you use??

Well…it's simple. You need to decide what color you want to jump out of your picture :) My pic has loads of different colors…Maddie's shirt is green, Sophia's is purple…Santa - as always…red, white and black. I put together the following example to show you the color options.

If I use red paper…Santa jumps out. Purple - Sophia's shirt draws you in. Green - Maddie's shirt becomes the focul. If I want the paper to blend with the pic - I match it with the teal of the chair then Santa and the girls jump out at you. White draws you to Santa's beard and Black…well…the picture just sortof floats on the black. So as you can see…if you are trying to decide what color of paper to use…you need to decide what color you want to pull out of your picture…eeezy peezy!!

Now - Run and be free my paper matching-eestas!! Inspire the world with your new found coordination-abilities :)

Cardstock/solid color is the first easy step in matching paper to photos…but what if you want to use patterned paper too?? Ooooooooo…THAT my scrappy people will have to wait for next time ;)

Ok - it's that time again, for the WEEKEND CHALLENGE!!!!!

Your challenge for the weekend has 2 parts.

a. Use and 8x10 picture on a 12x12 layout

b. Put your title ON your picture!!!

We've all got those humungo pics that we're not sure what to do with, so here's your chance to give it a go!! This is a layout I did a couple Christmas's ago...Obviously - my Dad...he's such a gadgeteer!! lol I LOVE this pic...and 4x6 didn't do it justice so I had to print it 8x10!

OMG!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT GRUNGEBOARD IS??!!!!

Ok Ok...I must be fair...until a couple weeks ago, I had no idea what it was either...I had heard about it all over the place...watched video's on it etc...but I just didn't understand the fuss. Then...my friend G came to town and brought the wonderful stuff with her...she was cool enough to let me touch it - but only for a very brief second and then the package was SNAPPED shut and I was left with a big empty void in my life that could only be filled by the super freakin cool stuff called grungeboard!!!

The first thing that came to mind when I saw it was that it's like suede...or rather - faux suede. You know that fake suede stuff that purses are made out of? it's grey and "fuzzy" like the back side of leather...but you can tell it's not real?? It's like that stuff...so - it looks like chipboard...but waaaay cooler!

Chipboard is rigid...for the sake of this example, let's pretend we're using a chipboard snowflake...circle in the middle with the arms sticking out all around. If you're trying to cover that with patterned paper or sanding it...the arms bend if you're not careful and it can break the surface paper etc. and make a real mess....Or, if you're trying to ink it...how do you get into those little corners without forcing the arms apart?? Just for a second...let's imagine that your snowflake is bendy!! How stinkin cool would THAT be?? You could simply push an arm down to chalk in between etc. and it would hold it's shape!! Gone are the days of amputee snowflakes!! lol

PLUS - IT'S FREAKIN TEXTURED!!!!!!!

Ok...it's 8:53am...I wont' be home for another 8 hours...and now I want to play with grungeboard!!!!!!!

This stuff is too blinking wicked to miss...and when I was at the store yesterday, there were only a few packs left...AND...just to add to the drool fest...

I know that everyone is familiar with the wonderfully yummy humungo chipboard packs...you know the 12x12 ones that have 4 sheets of chipboard shapes that give you enough pieces to last a lifetime?? YEAH - I know you know the ones - we all agree they're a major yum fest at only $20 a pack....Now...imagine that you take the same idea...multiply the number of pieces by like...A ZILLION, and call it grungeboard!!!! Yup - it's true!!! Size does NOT matter!! the package is about 5x7...but there are soooo freakin many different pieces in these packs and I couldn't find a single one that I would not be able to use!!! AND it's only $20!!!!

So - that being said - RRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!! Cuz this still won't hang out for long, and once everyone else figures out how spectacular this stuff is...it could become harder to get :( And that would suck :( and if you notice that some of it is wet...well...again - I apologize...I kinda drooled alot!! LOL

Ok...if you haven't been into the store yet...WHAT THE HECK IS HOLDING YOU BACK??!! I'm not sure if you'll want one of everything cuz I kinda drooled on ALL OF IT!!!!!!! 10 Page Class - Hollee, is working away at the prototypes for this class. All I can say is do a little dance make a little scraps get down tonight! Cause I have saw the sketches, I have saw what she brought home to create with, I have saw some partially done. You lucky, lucky scrap struck girls....this class is going to Rock and Dance.....we should know the date once she is done and ready to Roll witchas.

Cropping in May on our Day or Not?
Crop in May - I have been frantically once again looking for a great super duper local for our crop on that May 2nd. I am hoping come Monday some things will be solidified. If not I'm thinking in my mind that if we can't have the crop due to lack of a space for us all. We will party like we should on National Scrapbooking Day and have a crop at a later date in May. ONCE AGAIN this is something I'm working on BUT wanting LIKE ALWAYS to keep you all in the loop of info.

Step by step...

*due to technical difficulties, photos for this step by step will be posted as soon as I get a backpsace key...which will hopefully be tonight!!*

Step 1: Chose a base color for your chipboard. This is the color that will show through the cracks. Coat your chipboard and let it dry.

Step 2: Once the base coat is dry, apply an even layer of white glue all over the surface of the chipboard. A smooth thin layer will give you tiny hair line crackles. A heavier coat will offer bigger crackles, but be reasonable. No good can come from globs of glue! lol Be sure to brush in one direction. Smearing it all over will not give you a cool crackle finish...it will actually give you a "look what my dog ate in art class" look...Let it dry completely.

Step 3: Be sure that the glue is completely dry, then chose your top color. Using smooth even strokes, and painting in one direction only, apply a top coat of paint. You may want to practice a bit on this one. A thin layer of paint over thick glue will give very wide crackles...but heavier paint over heavy glue gives deeper ones. Try a few different applications to find the one that you like the best :)

Step 4: Wait...I know - I know...this part kills me every time!! You may or may not see crackles right away, depending on how thick your glue and paint are applied...but set it aside and wait...the crackles will definitely appear :) Honest!!

So there you have it!! An oh so super simple technique for chipboard!!

Chipboard 101!!

Didja know you can get this on chipboard?? It's true!! It's true!! And it's sooooo stinking easy, you'll kick yourselves when you realize that you could have been crackling alll along!!! All you need is plain old boring white elmers glue (It really does need to be the basic white school glue…I'm not sure why, but it seems to work the best :) Aside from that…you need 2 colors of paint - 1 dark, and 1 light. Oh - and chipboard helps too ;)
So…go collect your supplies, and I'll meet you on line tonight with the step by step :)

With the weekend in sight, and the Welcome back challenge wrapping up in less than 15 hrs, I figured I'd drop a super quick super fun Weekend challenge on ya's to get you through till Monday :) sooooo…Here it is.

Scrap a crappy photo!!

I thought of this last night when I was looking through the layouts on facebook. Kim Flogeras (Sorry if I spelled that wrong Kim) posted the most adorable layout of her new baby girl. (ok ok - before the claws come out - HER pic was absolutely adorable!!) She had taken a picture of her daughter on the way home from the hospital for the first time…it's soo stinking cute!!! BUT…I tried to take that exact same picture over 5 years ago when I was on the way home with my Sophia. I wasn't as successful!! Lol My hubby was totally freaking out cuz the roads were slippery and his brand new baby girl was in the back seat…(he's a worrier by nature) Anyway, he wouldn't let me take my seatbelt off to be able to take a decent shot! Needless to say, all I got was a picture of the floor in the back seat and there's a red blur in the corner of the pic where I caught the edge of her snowsuit!! LOL It's a super crappy picture, but the memory that goes along with it is still an important one…and that's what this challenge is all about :) I guess I'm being a little sneaky on this one too cuz the other most important part (aside from a crappy pic) is the journaling!! AND…just cuz I'm in a SUPER great mood today (for no reason other than having had 3 HUGE cofees and it's only 11am) Here's a SUPER quick and simple sketch to go along with it :) Remember to post your crappy creation on facebook for everyone to see :) Can't wait to see what you come up with :)

Journaling 101

I know that there are alot of scrappers out there who absolutely HATE journaling...or at the very least are intimidated by it. I used to feel the same way until I took an impromptu journaling course and it was the most amazing and valuable training I have ever received!!!

It went like this...

February 2004; I'm sitting at my dining room table, totally frustrated with a layout I was trying to finish about apple picking with the girls. My oldest was 5 at the time, saw that I was frustrated and come over the check it out…

Maddie: Mumma, whatcha doin? Cannah hewp?

Me: I'm trying to finish this layout but I'm having a hard time…

Maddie: Wif what Mumma?

Me: With the journaling.

Maddie: Whas at?

Me: Journaling is the writing that Mommy puts on the pages so that when you're all grown up you'll be able to read it and know all about our fun day of apple picking.

Maddie: But Mumma…you always say ve same fings when you showin ebrybody vese pictures…

Me: You're right…I do.

Maddie: So ven put at onnah page :) (insert HUGEST Chubby faced grin here)

Me: That's a great idea!! You're really good at this journlaing thing!

Maddie: Yup - I know-it :)

So there you have it…Journaling 101 :) I swear it works :) It's the best lesson I have ever had in journling and it works waaay better than any magazine article ever could :)

Step by step - Chipboard

Finally - Here is the step by step for the patterned paper and glitter covered Chipboard!!!!!

Step 1: Use glue stick to completely coat the side of the chipboard that you want to cover and press it onto the wrong side of the patterned paper.

Step 2: Using a bone folder, pencil or something equally flat, - ooo - a ruler would work too! Burnish the glued paper in place to make sure that the excess glue gets smooshed out and that the paper completely contacts the cb. This will avoid air bubbles and nasties that make it come off when you try to sand it :)

Step 3: Use a very sharp craft knife to cut around the chipboard. (wait about 10ish minutes or so for the glue to dry a bit before starting to cut.)

Step 4: Using a BG file set, file all around the edges of the chipboard. This will ensure you get a very clean edge. Be sure to file away from you with the patterned paper facing you (hope that makes sense) You can use a nail file, or emery board as well...but it doesn't do as nice a job as teh file set.

Step 5: Once the edges are filed clean you can stop and use it as is...or to continue with the glitter, apply a thin even coat of liquid glue to the entire surface of the patterned paper covered chipboard.

Step 6: Generously pour glitter all over the glueey chipboard. Wait about a minute or so for the glue to set up and then tap off the excess.

Step 7: Enjoy!! You're done!!!

That's all there is to it!! Hope it was helpful :)

Let's talk details!!

I know - I know...I still haven't posted the step by step for the chipboard...I'll get to it I swear, I just got distracted by feedback!! (wink wink ;)

I asked for feedback, and you guys have provided TONS!!! One word that was made loud and clear is that YOU WANT CLASSES!!! lol YAY cuz I LOVE classes too!! :)

While racking my brain over what type of class, techniques etc. it occured to me that most of us just want to get a bunch done...sooo...what better way than with a 10 pages in 1 night??

So - Let's talk details...

In this class, you'll complete 10 layouts in 2 hours. Needless to say, it will be a lesson in "speed-scrappin" cuz even with 2 hours and everything ready to go...that only leaves 12 minutes per page!! lol

Everything will be prepared in advance, so you won't need trimmers or tools, only adhesive. That way, we can stay on schedule and it also means that everyone can enjoy the class, weather you're a seasoned pro or brand shiney new to scrapping :)

Because it will be a very "active" class, we only have room for 8 people. With enough interest, and provided my own life doesnt' get any crazier...I may be able to run it a 2nd time but I can't guarantee it.

Cost is $30. + TX and must be paid in advance. There is a ton of preparation that goes into a class this size. Each participant will be completing 10 layouts…but that means that I'll have to prepare 80! (gulp!) I need to be sure that I have a commitment from everyone who has signed up. If something should happen that you can't make, I'll prepare a take out kit for you so that you can still take advantage of the class.

Dates...that's the next big question. I'm working with Nic to try to confirm a date, but I'd like to know if anyone has a preference. Please let me know when the best time is for you and I'll work with Nic to sort out the rest.

Sooooo...If you'd like to sign up - let me know cuz I officially have a TON of work to do!! lol YAY!!! (sung to the tune of "I'm the king of the castle") We're teaching a class at Ni-ics - we're teachin a class at Ni-ics - We're teachin a class at Ni-ics!

Yup...you guessed it!! CHIPBOARD!!! If you don't have it...you need it!! and if you DO have it...you're probably wondering what the heck to do with it!!! Well wonder no more!! Over the next couple weeks, I'll be dropping an idea or two on the millions and zillions and trillions of things you can do with this wonderful stuff!! (ok...maybe a dozen or so ideas...but that's still alot!)

First...Here's what you'll need for most of the ideas that lie ahead!!

Sharp craft knife

Bone folder

Glue stick

Glitter

Patterned paper

Pencil

BG File set (or nail file/sand paper)

Mod Podge ( or liquid glue)

Paint (any kind)

There may be a few extra things you'll need here and there, but I'll be sure to cover those things as we come to them :) Soooo without further delay...here's idea number 1!!

To teach, or not to teach...That is the question...

As you know, I'm in the process of collecting feedback from everyone on what they'd like to see happen at nics. One thing that I'm hearing from a number of you is that you want to see classes again. Well...I'm all ears :) I'd LOVE to get classes going again too!! That being said, classes require alot of planning and preparation and although I'll happily invest both...I need to know what you're looking for, so fill me in :) Those of you who have attended classes in the passed, what worked best for you?? what didn't? If there was something that wasn't working, how can we make it work?? What types of classes would you like to see happen? I need specifics. If there's a particular product or technique you'd like to see...I need to know. Are you new to scrappin?? Do we need to have another "Scrappin 101" class for beginners?? How about altered items or card classes??

I know it's an overwhelming question but I also know that not everyone is interrested in the same things and everyone has their own style of scrappin Sooooo...be as specific as you can and give as much info as possible. The more feedback I get, the sooner I can make it happen :)

I've seen some great feedback on our Welcome Back challenge and I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone has come up with...to help give everyone a jump start though, I thought I'd post my take on the sketch. I finished it up last night and in the process I learned 3 things...

1. Although there is never a bad time to scrabook...It's probably best to wait until after your sick hubby is finished replacing the exploding water tank.

2. Circles are super fun!!

3. It may be lovely…but this funky pink paper has a miror image repeat in it that makes it absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to scan & stitch!! It turns out looking like Siamese twins!! LOL

As mentioned in the previous post, Make sure to have your challenge layout posted to the facebook group gallery before midnight on March 28th! On March 29th I'll send a confirmation e-mail out to everyone who participated. Holy Moley...it seems like forever since we've seen any action in blog land, so I figured it was tiMe to wake this place UP!!!!!

Aside from a heaping bucket of coffee, there's not much that wakes ME up and gets me hopping like A SALE. A sale on Scrappin stuff makes me even hoppier…and saving 40% makes me hoppier still!!!!! So, in the interest of making everyone hoppy (oooo - that's even kinda easter-ish) Here we go!!!

Now that I have your attention, let's nock the dust off of our creativity with a "Welcome back Challenge".

Use the following sketch as inspiration and let your creativity run wild. Layout must be created specifically for this challenge and include at least 1 photo. It doesn't have to be round…but round is way too much fun not to try at least once :)

Sometimes, after taking a hiatus from scrapbooking I need a kick in the butt to get back in the groove of it again. I need the *time* to Just Do It! The best remedy is always a crop for me. Going with a bunch of other scrapbookers in the same room scrapping for hours I am ready to scrap like a mad women again.

This upcoming Saturday September 22nd. For 12 hours 12-12. For only $22.00. You can come scrapbook with a bunch of other scrapbookers. And not only have fun and scrapbook BUT help in raise money for a great cause. It is located at the Masonic Hall in Fredericton and there is still space. All monies raised will be being donated to the Saint John Chapters of Canada's Scrapbooking Crop for Kids. http://www.csc4k.com/saintjohn/ The Chapter will be donating all money to the Saint John NeoNatal Unit. Take a look at the website and you will see this is an across fundraiser to raise money for Children. I want to give a big shout out to Christine Campbell in Saint John for all her hard work and spear heading this for New Brunswick. Scrapbookers, have big hearts Christine and you are a fine example.

Where Am I?

I always feel it is my duty to report to you where I am if I am out of the store for any amount of time. I have been out the past couple days but things are getting back to a *new* normal now.

My friends 7 Year Old Daughter is staying with us for an undetermined amount of time. Her Dad fell from a tree on Saturday night paralyzing him from his toes upto his neck. He is now at the Saint John hospital under their care and watch. In order for E's, transition into our home to be a smooth one I have been staying home with her the past couple days. Her Mom is with her Dad where she should be during this very trying time.

It has been alot of fun having a little one in the house again. Toys in the living room, cartoons on the TV, bath time, little hands to bake with me, going down the toy isle at Walmart again and craft time are things I have really missed with Tori being a tweeny booper. Tori asked tonight if we had to give her back or if she could stay forever. Which was warming as Tori has been an only child with our undivided attention for over 12years that even she is enjoying the little one around the house.

Please keep this family close in your prayers.

Getting there...

Well if you have been to the store in the past couple days you will see we are getting there.
The store is still in a little bit of upheaval at the back till the construction is done by the end of this Month. I have some new ideas floating around in my head once the construction is done.

How about I give you a little hint about the next thing we are working on. Ever want to take a class but can't make it to the scheduled class time? Do you prefer to be taught the class not read about it? Stopping there.....any guesses :)

Ummmm, and how about news of more stuff coming. Yay Curumba....lots more a comin'! I think it shipped out today so as soon as I get the packing lists I'll let you know what is enroute!!

Some people call us Crazy; Some People call us Nuts; I'm calling myself DOG TIRED.

As you read in the newsletter today the scrapbook *side* of the store is getting more space. ALOT more which really will have to be explained when you come in; well you will be able to see ALOT of the space being used now cause the store is a L shaped not one big aisle opening with more space to come. Cause the wall that is up there now is coming down. But they are going to work behind it for a couple weeks making a *new* wall before tearing the *old* wall down.

We knew the contractors were starting *soon* but not really *when* as we were awaiting word from head office in Ontario of our landlords to give the big go ahead. The call came today late this morning AFTER 20+ boxes of new product arrived. We got really talking then about how we were going to make it work - mind you we have talked and drew more floor plans out in the past Month; even on napkins in restaurants to make this work right for *us*. One thing lead to another and we started changing sides right then with each other. See you really have to come in to see all this. I think we suprised ourselves on the progress we made today. It looks pretty darn cool in there. A little cyclonish in some areas but cool none the less. Sally, I'm so glad you were there today and I promise it will look better when you work next. Tori is coming to work tomorrow for a couple hours to help out. Mind you she drives a hard bargain and thought that she should get paid an engineers wage to put the new cardstock out....okay back to the story of *today*....

Okay, so picture this. We are moving stuff around, paper racks, a gazillion pegged product, robs counters, service area benches etc. All over the place. Mr. Contractor walks in and says so we will be here to start on Monday. My answer, Ummmmmm NO that is a little unrealistic.

You see in order for the *new* wall to be built we have to clear out EVERYTHING out back where Robs Service area & classroom is so that the new Walls and Bathrooms can be built. We still don't even have the store looking glamorous yet. Mr. Contractor agrees that Wednesday is okay to start. Whew.

Crazy was our day. Nuts will be the next couple. Dog Tired is the right now.

How is your Summer going?

I kinda wish it in a semi-kinda, sorta way it would end soon. This child care thing is getting to be a lil' bit of a pain in the butt. Tori, is old enough to be home alone for short periods of time, she has took 2 child care courses BUT I still am not comfortable in her staying home for hours and hours. From 8:30am-6:30pm is way to long for my lil' muffin to be home alone. We have been trying our best to make this Summer work out for the best. I know some of you are thinking or asking me What about Summer Camp? Don't even go there........I can't fathom the whole Summer of her in camps for $200.00 PLUS a week! For the love of Jupiter I should shut down the store for the Summer Months and open up a kid Summer Camp.....talk about mucho amounto of money.

Happily despite everything happenning there is still Summer CHA about to launch and yummy, scrumptious, can not wait to have in my scrap possesion Scrapbooking Supplies are being released!

Don't worry......Our ordering is almost complete for all the NEW stuff! Today actually I have to order the following the NEW BASIC GREY (4 new lines and embellies!), BoBunny & Making Memories.

On the way soon...is the new Autumn Leaves product! I'll keep you posted!
